HAIR COLORING & HIGHLIGHTS

Balayage. Gloss. Highlights & More.

Our Cincinnati Hair Color Artists provide a wide array of coloring services for every type of hair.

Want to re-create those natural looking highlights you had as a kid? Balayage can do that. Balayage makes you look like you just returned from a lavish summer vacation. Balayage says “I have great hair” in a way that’s subtle yet noticeable – not flashy and obvious.

Balayage (bah-lee-ahge) is a technique in which the colorist paints color onto a person’s hair freehand, using long, sweeping strokes. When done properly, it results in a more natural look, and it’s one of the hottest looks in hair.

The look has a softer grow out, making maintenance easier. Some clients come in every 3-6 months between visits other opt to come in every 6-10 weeks.

Hair Gloss

What is a gloss? A hair gloss is basically a shine treatment that is applied to your hair.

The benefits of using hair gloss include:

  • Longer lasting and more vibrant hair color
  • Reduced split ends
  • Reduction of frizz
  • Helps overall dryness.

Hair gloss treatments can also be used to tone your color. That means they can be used to reduce brassiness, neutralize unwanted tones, or refresh and restore faded tones. This leaves the hair feeling amazing with more shine. Schedule Your Appointment today for the best hair gloss treatment in Cincinnati.

Highlights

We offer many different types of bespoke highlighting techniques at Lovisa Salon

The terms balayage, ombre, baby lights, foilayage, teazylights and highlights are all various styles and techniques that refer to the same goal; lightening the hair. They can all be combined for a desired looked. In fact, some of the most common inspiration photos that you have seen are usually a combination of the above mentioned highlights.

Traditional Highlights

Traditional Highlights are created by using foils. This technique gives a traditional highlighted look and can achieve lighter results than just hand painting.

Babylights

Babylights are super thin highlights placed in foil to create a super subtle sunkissed result. This technique can break up the root color for a softer grow out. Works great in combination with traditional hilights and balayage.

Teazylights

Teazylights requires a slight teased section in the root area, then the remaining hair is weaved or sliced and placed in foils. This will give a subtle grow out. It can mimic an ombre or used to create a diffused Highlight. This technique is used with many different types of highlighting techniques along with root taps, root stretches and root melts to create a “lived in look”.

Foilayage

Foilayage is a technique that uses foils to help create the look of balayage.

Ombré

Ombré is a “look” where it is darker on the top area and fades to lighter mid-lengths and ends. This look can be done with foils, balayage, teazylights or where only the tips of the hair are lightened, aka “tip out”. Possibly a combination.  Using “Tip Out” on the ends of hair can give a softer version of ombre.

Frequently Asked Questions

To learn more about our hair coloring services, review our FAQ section below:
A gloss is a demi color that has no ammonia. Yes, it can be used to correct a tone and get rid of brass, but it does so much more. It helps with both the condition and the overall feel of your hair. A gloss ads shine, body and smooths down the cuticle of the hair.  It is widely used as part of many color services; in fact you probably have had a gloss treatment and didn’t realize it. It is used to refresh the ends, restore color, and used after a highlighting or balayage service to add a creamy tone to the hair. One can also go darker and richer with a gloss.  It comes in many different color options as well as clear. A Gloss treatment is an absolute must to having healthy, reflective hair. All in 20 minutes or less.
That depends on what type of color you’re getting done.
If you’re covering your gray hair, it’s best to do it every 4 to 6 weeks.
If you’re about three levels lighter or more than your natural hair color, you would want to do it closer to every 4 to 5 weeks.
Highlights can go anywhere from every six weeks to eight weeks.
If you’re doing a lived in color and covering grays is not a concern of yours, you most likely can have it done three times a year. You might just need to come in for a gloss to keep the tone on point.

Your hair should be relatively clean. If you have a lot of product in your hair, or oil build up, the color will not be able to penetrate the hair. So have your hair shampooed the night before or one day before to insure a good color service.

To shampoo or not shampoo. That is the question.
It will depend on how active you are, how much oil your scalp produces and how dry your scalp is. The latter can do less shampooing every 3-5 days. Otherwise, every 2-3 days. Oily scalps and very active lifestyles will probably need to shampoo every day. If your scalp produces extra oil, try a volume shampoo or one made for oily scalps.
If you use a lot of sprays on your hair, then two shampoos are a must. And the same if you only shampoo once a week. The first shampoo helps remove product and build up; the second shampoo helps clean the scalp. A healthy scalp is the first step towards healthy hair!
We offer mini highlighting and face frame highlighting services when a full or partial highlighting service is not needed. It keeps everything on point. Also, base breaks and shadow roots can keep the hair looking fresh in between hair appointments. These all take less time and are more budget friendly than full services.
